Pope Francescu called for an end to violence against women, saying that such a thing is “insulting” against God.
Pope Francis made these comments on January 1st during his annual New Year's message at the mass held at St. Peter's Basilica at the Vatican.
Francescu, 85, seemed to enjoy good health and he walked along the central portion of the Basilica, compared to services on December 31st, when he used an entrance closer to the altar.
Attendance in Mass was limited because of measures against the pandemic of the coronary.
How much violence is directed against women. Enough. To hurt a woman is to insult God”, the Pope said.
During a TV programme last month, the Pope said that a man who exercises violence against a woman is involved in something “that is almost satanic”.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, Pope Francisescu has spoken several times against violence against women, a phenomenon that grew worldwide during the closures due to COVID-19, allowing women to stay locked up at home along with their abusers.
On January 1, the Catholic Church celebrates World Peace Day. In a statement marking this day, last month the Pope called for states to spend less on weapons and more on education.
