Through a communique, police have indicated that the situation has gone smoothly and without incident, exempting the holding of several gatherings and marches at different locations, in terms of expression of discontent against the failure to hold the referendum in Kosovo.
“Referenced information concerning warnings that on 16 January 2022, a referendum on constitutional changes planned to be held in Serbia will also be organised in the Republic of Kosovo (RKS), Kosovo Police as a law enforcement institution in co-ordination with competent authorities, based on legal acts and resolution adopted by the Parliament of the Republic of Kosovo, have made its operational plans to maintain the RKS Constitutional Order and maintain public order and calm in the country<2>, Kosovo Police report.
Police say there has been an operational plan to maintain constitutional order and that it would react to professionalism if order was violated.
“In this area of action, the Kosovo Police have drafted the operational order, where the measures and actions of the Kosovo Police are envisioned in the function of preserving the constitutional order of the Republic of Kosovo and ensuring general security. Also envisioned are all operational planning and actions for security management and professional response in the event of violation of civic security or constitutional order in our country”.
Kosovo's “Police are committed to carrying out its constitutional and legal duties and authorisations, as well as ensuring general security in the country”, it is said at the end of the announcement.
