“will have a telephone conversation with President Putin on Friday morning so that we can see the whole situation together”, Macron said after a meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Berlin today.
The Elysee Palace announced on Monday that Macro would propose Putin “a way to calm the Ukrainian crisis”.
“We are concerned and very careful not to create additional uncertainty and instability,” said the French Presidency amid tensions between the West and Russia for Ukraine.
Macron said his conversation with Putin on Friday would give Russian leader the opportunity to give a “clarification” on Moscow's plans for Ukraine.
Macron accused Russia of behaving like a “imbalance of” through its conduct not only in Ukraine but also in Belarus, Caucasus and Moldova.
He said the situation is disturbing and requires Europe to stay united and prepare a “joint response”.
This also means that we have to have a clarification dialogue with Russia, because I think this dialogue is necessary to get rid of the confusions,” Macron said.
The gathering of Russian troops on the Ukrainian border has raised fears of a conflict, but it remains unclear what the Kremlin's intentions are.
Some analysts predict Russia is considering some kind of intervention in Ukraine, though Moscow has insisted it is not planning a new attack on its neighbour following the Crimea annexation in 2014.
Senior representatives of Germany, Russia and Ukraine will discuss in Paris on Wednesday on Ukraine, along with French officials in the so-called four-way format “Normadi”, France24 follows.
