Macro proposes to Putin plan to ease conflict in Ukraine

Macron said the purpose of the meeting was to make a balance and clarify Russia's role in the Ukraine conflict, reports the paper.

Sources from Elysée said Macron believes there is room for diplomacy in easing the conflict.

“He wanted to make it clear that Russia's military actions against Ukraine would have very serious consequences”, Elysée sources said.

Western countries are concerned that the conflict could escalate militarily with an invasion of Ukraine by Russian troops.

Elysée said, the “compression of the Russian side could be achieved through humanitarian measures, forcing the Kremlin's loyal separatists to negotiate with Kiev and a reduction of military personnel along the” border.
