Goes Lumez: State Prosecutor's Position Competition Opens

The Kosovo Prosecutorial Council (KPK) at the first meeting held for 2022 on Wednesday has made a decision to announce a competition for the appointment of the chief state prosecutor.

This is after Alexander Lumez, who currently exercises this position, completes the mandate on April 21st, 2022, reports the “Justice Trust”.

The competition for this position will be open 15 days after its proclamation, starting on January 17th.

The KKP has also established the appreciative panel for the purpose of candidates applying for the position of chief state prosecutor.

Members of this panel, besides the Council's leader, Jetish Maloku, through the lots were selected members of the KKP Ariana Shaykovci, Bedrije Syla-Alsic, Armend Zenelaj and Jovo Radovic. This panel will be led by the leader of the KKP.

While members of the Commission for Review of candidates' objections to the prosecution process were selected following the withdrawal of the draw, KPK members Veton Shabani, Ardian Hajdaraj and Agron Beka were selected.

Lumez his mandate in this position was launched on 21 April 2015, following his decree by former president of the Republic of Kosovo, Atifete Jahjaga, for a seven-year term, without a possibility of reappointed.

The competition for this position, according to Rule No. 06/2019 for the appointment of Chief State Prosecutor and Prosecutors Prosecutors of the Republic of Kosovo, it must be announced by the KKP 90 days before the end of the mandate of the current State Prosecutor.

Conform Law for the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council, the mandate of the new State Chief Prosecutor will be seven years old, without a reappointed option.
