Tens of people have applied for gender change to the Swiss civil registry, after the law eased on January 1st of this year.
Most applications were from persons under the age of 30, writes Chessinfo, records albinfo.ch.
A person under 16 applied accompanied by parents. It says that 20 applications have been submitted since the beginning of the year in Cyril, 8 in Basel, 14 in Geneva, 4 in Lucen, 5 in Winterhur and 23 in the Bern Canton.
After a change in Swiss law, transgenerators and intersex are now able to change their name and sex in the civil registry, without bureaucratic complications.
Since 2022 there have been no medical examinations or other preconditions. Each year, about 40 children are born without sex at birth. However, the law earlier required that they register within three days with the gender and their name, which could be changed only later through a long administrative or judicial procedure. The third step will be the introduction of a third “sex”, followed by albinfo.ch.
