Kurti during the campaign: We aim at reducing electricity because it is too expensive to be above all the energy we have

The government today has made a decision to approve the Energy Regulatory Office's proposal for the expensive electricity tariffs for several consumer groups. However, Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti in the 2019 election campaign had confidently said that the price of electricity would not increase but will [...]
The Energy Regulatory Office has said it has proposed two blocks for domestic consumers, the first consumer bloc to 600 kWh, this level of consumption could be offered at an estimated price to the existing fee.
In their clarification it is said that when a consumer consumes more than 600 kWh, then to cover consumption over 600 kWh has to buy energy from import. For that reason, according to them, the price of energy over 600 kWh should reflect the price of import, explaining the rise in the electricity price that was approved today by the Government.
But, on September 26th 2019, incumbent Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti said the electricity price would be lowered, though it could not provide accurate answers to how low it would be. He also said that they would not pay with Kosovo's budget the current for those Sė pay, alluding to citizens in northern Kosovo.
I can't tell today how much electricity will go down, but I know the Contour Global doesn't come up in expression, it will cost us electricity and we don't pay on Kosovo's budget for those who pay electricity, whether in the north or elsewhere. I can't quantify it today, but we're going to target reducing electricity because it's too expensive, when we're standing above all this energy we have, many have the capacity of”, he said.
Today, however, the Economy Ministry has announced that it has pledged 75m euros for energy subsidies for citizens and businesses, while adopting the ZERE's proposal to raise tariffs.
“Taking into account the state of emergency and unprecedented in the European electricity markets that have influenced Kosovo, the Government of the Republic of Kosovo at the request of the Ministry of Economy has pledged to subsidise Kosovo citizens and businesses, thus protecting them from raising tariffs. Subventions present revenue for the sector that is not necessary to cover electricity tariffs and, therefore, soften the growth of the electricity fee”, the ministry's communique said.
According to the Ministry, the government's subsidy of electricity will impact that the tariff for business consumers remains at 0% growth, the tariff for home consumers until consumption of 600 kWh remains at 0% growth, while the Z-proposed tariff RRE for household consumers for consumption over 600 kWh to be reduced, reflecting the import price for these consumers and promoting energy efficiency.
Under the Energy Regulatory Office proposal, new electricity tariffs, if approved, will begin to apply on February 1st 2022 and will be valid until 31st, 2023, the newspaper Express writes.
