In 2017, the Security Council unanimously approved three groups of economic sanctions after North Korea conducted nuclear and missile tests, a rare display of unity for the organ, often blocked.
No joint declaration is expected after Monday's meeting, one diplomat said, though another added that statements will likely be issued before or after the meeting.
The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), a state media, said Wednesday's rocket carried a “hypersonic draghead “that “accurately hit a 700km (435 km) target away from”, without identifying the launcher.
The rocket also demonstrated a new “ ”, moving 120 kilometers aside after breaking away from the launcher to hit the target.
The launch was the second reported test of those Pyongyang claimed to be hypersonic slide rockets after a similar test last September.
The United States, Japan and Canada were among those who quickly condemned Wednesday's test, claiming it violated numerous Security Council resolutions and threatened security in the region as well as the international community.
Ghean has argued that the continued development of his weapons technologies is necessary to defend itself against a potential American invasion.
