Israel's military planes have hit forces of militants in the Gaza Strip on January 1st, after several rockets were thrown out of Palestinian enclaves, sources and the army said.
On 2 January, the Israeli Army said on Twitter that the missile attack against militants' targets on Hamas-controlled territory was in response to two missiles released from the Gaza Strip, which fell into the Mediterranean Sea near Tel Aviv.
“The fireworks lit up the sky to mark New Year's Worldwide, another kind of fire came from Gaza ʹ terrorist missiles thrown towards Israel”, Israeli Defence Forces said.
Israel reports Gaza launch missiles
The Israeli military said it responded by hitting a building for the production of missiles used by Hamas. Still no victim reporting.
It is also unclear whether the Gaza-set missiles were intended to hit any target in Israel.
In addition to an incident in September last year, there have been no missile attacks since a ceasefire ended the 11-day conflict between Israel and Hamas in March, when Hamas threw missiles towards Israel.
The Palestinian militant organisation Hamas is named a terrorist group by Israel, the United States and the European Union. / REL/
