Even a group of American senators have promised Ukraine weapons, including missiles, small arms and boats, to protect the large European state from possible aggression at the time of the mass gathering of Russian troops near the border.
However, Germany's Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, has stressed Berlin's policy not to send deadly weapons to conflict zones, Reuters writes, The Express reports.
I can understand the desire to support Ukraine, and this is exactly what we're already doing”, Minister Lambrecht said in an interview for the weekly “Welt am Sonntag”.
“Ukraina will receive a complete field hospital, along with necessary training in February, all co-financed by Germany for 5.3m euros”, she said, stressing that Germany for years has treated Ukrainian troops severely injured in its hospitals.
However, she added, Berlin is not ready to supply Kiev with weapons for now. We have to do everything for suspension. For now, sending weapons would not be useful in this respect, there is agreement on this to the German government”, the defence minister said.
