The US Treasury Department said in a statement that the move was in line with their efforts to prevent the advance of weapons of mass destruction of North Korea (AMD) and ballistic missile programmes, as well as the “preventing the efforts of genan to expand interrelated technologies”.
Brian Nelson, Secretary of the Treasure for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence, said recent launching of North Korea's missiles were additional “evidence that it continues to promote banned programmes despite calls by the international community for diplomacy and de-launching”.
North Korea successfully tested a hypersonic missile in the presence of leader Kim Jong Un on Monday, state media in North Korea reported.
The purpose of the test was to eventually confirm the technical specifications of the developed hypersonic weapons system”, state agency KCNA reported.
This is the second time in less than a week that North Korea conducts such a test and leader Kim Jong Un has promised to strengthen his army with the latest technology, at a time when negotiations with South Korea and the United States are blocked.
North Korea announced on Wednesday last week that it had conducted its second hypersonic missile test, Reuters records.
