Josep Borrell, EU foreign policy chief, began his two-day trip to Ukraine during today's [day] day, ahead of the US-Russia talks in Geneva on January 10th and the Nato-Russia talks on January 12th.
Borrell is meeting with Ukraine's Foreign Minister, Dmytro Kuleba, during the trip, where he tries to show solidarity with Kjev, who aspires to join Nato and the EU, follows Periscope from The Guardian.
Tensions arose after Russia's President Vladimir Putin last month imposed security requirements that Nato immediately rejected, including vetoing Ukraine's entry into the military alliance.
In an effort to defuse the situation, Russia and American officials will hold talks in Geneva on January 10th, where US President Joe Biden met with Putin last year.
The EU is anxious not to be overlooked.
Borrell, who has been demanding more military co-operation from the EU, said Europe should be involved in the talks.
European security is our security. It's for us. Two parties, the United States and Russia, or Nato and Russia, cannot negotiate for whom even if Moscow asks for it. ”
