Borrell: Waiting for Kosovo, Serbia to make progress in obligations

The Union's foreign policy chief, Europe (BE), Josep Borrell, has said that in the EU, there is room for unbelievers and genocide and degloricists of war criminals. He has also said Kosovo and Serbia should continue dialogue by respecting signed agreements. Borrell made these comments today at the joint conference [...]

These comments were made today at the joint conference with Serbia's prime minister, Anna Brnabic, after the EU-Serbia Stabilisation and Association Council meeting.

European top diplomat Borell has cited the normalisation of Kosovo-Serbia reports as one of the union's conditions for Serbia's progress on the European road. The EU has never been elaborized to the end what happens to “abnormalisation”, while the US has been insisting on mutual recognition in the last three years.

“Progress in rule of law, fundamental rights and normalisation of relations with Kosovo will determine the pace of Serbia's EU membership negotiations. Speaking of normalising good neighbourly relations and co-operation, let me stress the following: There is no place in Europe for deniers of genocide, there is no room for legalising war crimes and criminals, as well as tolerating or supporting the public for those who deny genocide, celebrating war crimes or those who undermine their country's territorial integrity, not only threatening regional stability and regional reconciliation, but also are in accordance with European values and aspirations. We told the principles to Serbia's prime minister, Ana Brnabyq, and we made sure that we will continue to progress on Serbia's European path”, Borrell said.

He also said Kosovo and Serbia should continue dialogue by respecting signed agreements.

“We welcome Serbia's readiness to engage in dialogue. It needs to make rapid progress in the normalisation process, in the sense of implementing past agreements and moving forward for legally binding comprehensive agreement. We expect Kosovo and Serbia to make progress in their dialogue obligations”, Borrell has said.

European Union for Foreign Policy and Security High Representative Josep Borrell has also confirmed today that the European Emissari for Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak and American envoy for the Balkans Gabriel Escobar visit Kosovo on Monday (January 31st).
