Prime Minister Albin Kurtid was notified of the conversation he had with Joseph Borrell about Serbia's referendum. According to Kurti, Borrell has reportedly been announced that Kosovo's government enables Serbs to vote via mail, but not open deployments to the state of Kosovo. Meanwhile Borrell, today through a tweet at Titter, has said Serbs should have the right to vote for the referendum in Serbia.
European Union diplomacy chief Josep Borrell said it is important that Serbian citizens in Kosovo who have the right to vote can exercise that right during the referendum on constitutional changes in Serbia, which is held Sunday on January 16th.
He said that even in the past, the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSBE) has facilitated the collection of votes of Serbian citizens living in Kosovo.
“Day I have talked with Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurtin and Serbia's president, Allexander Vuciq, about the collection of votes in Kosovo for the constitutional referendum held Sunday in Serbia. The gathering of votes in the past has been done with relief from the OSCE. Citizens should be able to exploit their voting rights”, Borrell said through a post in Titter.
Kosovo has said that Serbian citizens with dual citizenship will be able to vote only through the post or Serbian Liaison Office in Pristina.
Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti said the vote in the referendum of another state, in a sovereign territory, “is not a practice acceptable to no democratic state”.
“over a conversation with EU High Representative Josep Borrell I expressed our position: Serbs in Kosovo with dual citizenship can vote in Serbia's referendum via mail or at the Liaison Office in Pristina. The referendum of another state in a sovereign territory is not the practice acceptable to any democratic state”, Kurti wrote in Titter after a conversation with Borrell on January 12th.
According to Law and International Relations Professor Enver Hasani, the Kosovo government has the right not to allow the organisation of Serbia's referendum in Kosovo. /Full text in REL/
