According to his official biography, Kurilla, 55, currently heads the 18th Air Corps, which groupes most of the United States military response forces at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
A West Point graduate, he fought in Kosovo, Afghanistan and Iraq, where he was severely wounded by a firearm during an attack in Mosul in 2005.
