Announcing the arrest of a 38-year-old, police said they were temporarily holding another man, 32, in search of potential collaborators.
The German newspaper Bild reports that the officers sent two voice messages off the street. First, officers said that they had stopped a suspicious vehicle and discovered dead prey in the trunk.
A second message followed immediately after, “are firing on us! ” reportedly the officers said, before radio contact can be stopped.
By the time the reinforcements arrived, the officer was already dead, local media report. Until her colleague died right after that.
Roads in the area were closed Monday, and authorities urged people not to take persons who make autostops, the BBC writes.
Some details of the story are unclear. There are still few descriptions of what happened in the attack and the police have not detailed what the motive might have been.
