American Command Establishs Military Base in Albania

The American Special Forces Command for Europe has announced it will establish its headquarters in Albania to ensure greater ties with Albania and easier access to the Balkans. In a SOCEUR media report, it has been said that Albania remains a strong ally of NATO and the US [...]

In a SOCEUR media report, it is said Albania remains NATO's strong ally, and the US enjoys strong relations with the Albanian state.

The headquarters will be rotating.

The location of the headquarters in Albania will provide greater interaction with our Albanian allies, important access to transport centres in the Balkans and greater logistics flexibility. Albania remains a strong ally of NATO and the US enjoy a strong relationship with Albania's government and defence ministry, which makes the deployment of a commanding headquarters in this ally country a natural decision. Also, this location greatly reduces travel time and increases the flexibility of special operations and conventional forces in the region. This would not be possible without the Albanian government's extraordinary support and professionalism of the Albanian Army”, the announcement said.

Major General David Tabor, commander of the Comando of Special Operations in Europe, has said that the ability to move and train rapidly within the Balkans makes Albania the best location.

In SOCEUR's announcement, the US with trainings in the region will reportedly provide important links with allies to boost regional stability.

“SO CUR has a unique position to stimulate our relationship with allies and partners to counter malicious influences, build interoperability, respond quickly to possible threats, and, if necessary, to defeat attacks”, it is said at the end of the announcement.

The American Embassy in Tirana called this decision a “gurthemel for regional stability”.

A few days ago, US President Joe Biden gave assurances to Ukrainian President Voldymyr Zelensky that the US and its allies would respond decisively if Russia invaded Ukraine É noted that it followed the American administration of Russian President Vladimir Putin to reduce the tensions of military crisis along the Ukrainian border.

Russian and American officials are expected to meet this month in Geneva for a diplomatic solution.

Russia has deployed about 100,000 troops in the vicinity of its border with Ukraine, and American intelligence has predicted that Russia could launch a military offensive during the first part of 2022.
