The Republic of Albania, for the first time in history, occurred on January 21, 1925, on the 5th anniversary of the beginning of the Lucnje Congress.
Ahmet Zogu called to Tirana the National Assembly, on which his control was almost complete, to debate the adoption of a republican constitution.
62 out of 64 deputies were persuaded to vote in favour of such a governing system. Thus, the Albanian Republic was declared, with Zogu as president, replacing the 4-member regent, released by the Congress of Lushnje (1920), which was abolished.
The second time, Albania was declared the popular republic on January 11, 1946, to move to the popular Socialist republic in 1976. The third time the republic was declared has been on April 29, 1991.
