According to data from the American Geological Society (USGS), quakes with magnitude 4.9 and 5.3 have affected the northwestern province of Badgis, where they caused collapses of houses and buildings.
A spokesman told AFP that four children were among those found dead in the ruins.
They added that more than 700 homes were damaged.
Earthquakes can cause significant damage in Afghanistan, where many dwellings are not so stable or well-built, the BBC writes.
