After counting most of the votes Monday evening, Trudeau is on his way to forming another minority government, hinting he will again need the support of other parties for the adoption of laws.
I hear you saying you want to go back to the things you love, not to worry about the pandemic or the elections. You have given this government and this assembly a clear direction”, Trudeau said Tuesday morning, acknowledging that the decision to declare early elections was not supported.
According to preliminary results, the Liberal Party is expected to win 156 seats -- less than 170 needed to secure the parliamentary majority. Opposition conservatives Erin O'Toole are expected to have 121 seats. These results are much like those of the 2019 elections, writes The Guardian.
Prime Minister Trudeau in August decided to announce early elections in the hope that his government's pandemic management could increase Liberal Party power in the assembly.
