Interior Minister Jelal Svecla has spoken after the deployment of KFOR troops in the north, near the Special Unit. He says KFOR has expressed readiness to provide support for security in the north. Svechla also talked about when the Special Unit could be returned from the north.
Special police units in the north are to support the work of other institutions. The moment the need for this support is complete, we have no reason for the Special Unit to stay there, he said.
) Since the first day, we have made it clear that the measures taken by R. Kosovo's, it is not directed against citizens who belong. It is a fulfillment of the legal obligation to order and law. We have made it clear that the Special Unit engagement has not been done against our citizens, but to protect our border points and personnel serving there; border police and customs officers. After the barricades were established, we have seen a severity of the rhetoric of Serbian authorities, but also representatives of parallel structures in Kosovo that have portrayed the Special Unit's commitment as a response to them. Since KFOR has offered additional commitments and secured our border police, we have said that with the removal of barricades, the presence of the Special Unit would be unnecessary. But even this offer has been rejected by extremist elements and proved that they are not concerned with the presence of Special Forces, but their intentions are deeply political and at the expense of our country's sovereignty.
Interior Minister Jedal Svecla says Kosovo Police in the north are for security of legitimacy, as is the entire territory of the country.
Kosovo's “Police stand at border points for citizens' security and full respect for Kosovo's democratic decisions. This is no threat to the citizens of our Republic. Instead, the legitimacy in the north is about well-being, prosperity for our citizens. So far over 11,000 temporary license plates have been issued. Austria, like other allies of the democratic world, is listed towards our common interest”, Svecla has said at a joint conference with his Austrian counterpart, who is visiting Kosovo. /Periscopi
