China pays special attention to the tense “cystat” in northern Kosovo, and considers that the “actions taken unilaterally are not in the interest of peace and stability in the region”, told after the meeting of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucciq, with China's ambassador to Belgrade, Chen Bo.
According to a statement issued by Serbia's Presidency, the Chen ambassador conveyed the official Chinese side's position that “international co-operation should treat all sides equally, as double standards do not help solve the problem”.
The Chinese “Pala respects Serbia's sovereignty and territorial integrity in the matter of Kosovo and understands and supports Serbia's legitimate requirements, including those for protecting the security and legal rights of the Serbian people in Kosovo”, Chen was quoted as saying.
Vuciq, said in the statement, thanked him and the Chinese state for the support they offer Serbia on the Kosovo issue.
Since 20 September, Serbs in northern Kosovo have blocked the Jarinje and Brnjak border crossings, located in this area, in sign of opposition to the Kosovo government's decision to impose reciprocity measures on Serbia's auto plates.
With the Government's decision, all vehicles from Serbia entering Kosovo must be equipped with temporary license plates.
Kosovo Police Special Unit has been deployed at the border crossings.
Serbia's representatives accuse Kosovo of violating the provisions of the Brussels Agreement for free movement.
Kosovo representatives say they are acting in accordance with the Agreement.
Similar measures against Kosovo license plates, Serbia is implementing now many years.
Due to the situation in northern Kosovo, the Serbian Army has been deployed and its fighter planes have flown near blockades in the north on several occasions in recent days.
