Biden has announced another course of relations in the Middle East, while planning to reopen her consulate in Jerusalem. Earlier this consulate served as an embassy for Palestinians.
The decision was welcomed by Palestinians, earlier President Beden and State Secretary Blinken have spoken of new political and diplomatic steps in the region and the renewal of contacts with the Palestinian Authority.
Meanwhile, Israel has considered a bad “ide” this initiative and that it can destabilise the new government of Prime Minister Naphtali Bennett.
“We think it's a bad idea,” Foreign Minister Yair Lapid said at a press conference.
And therefore we don't think it's a good idea. We know that the Biden administration has another optical on this issue, but since it's happening in Israel, we're sure they're listening very carefully to us” said Lapid.
President Donald Trump's previous administration signaled support for Israel's claim on Jerusalem as its capital by moving the American Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, a move that angered Palestinians who want East Jerusalem as the capital of their future state.
President Joe Biden has vowed earlier to restore ties with Palestinians while supporting a two-state solution.
