Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama said in Pristina that Serbia should stop military maneuvers near the border with Kosovo, because according to him, they do not protect the Serb citizens of northern Kosovo.

Albania's Prime Minister Edi Rama made this statement during a visit to Kosovo, and after a meeting he held with Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti. Edi Rama from Pristina condemned Serbia's “bringing forward the Kosovo Government's decision on reciprocity regarding car plates”.

“Today we witness Serbia's military theatre maneuvers on the border with the sovereign state of Kosovo. Those maneuvers do not protect Serbian citizens in northern Kosovo, as claimed by the official Belgrade leadership”, Rama said. The Albanian prime minister condemned incidents two days ago in the north, burning car registration centres in northern Kosovo. According to him, Serbian citizens in Kosovo do not need to be protected, as they live safely.

Serbian citizens in Kosovo live under no threat. Even electricity bills from the government of this country as nobody in the Balkans, but also in the world, Rama said. According to him, the problem already about car license plates can be solved “with dialogue alone. ”

The right here is with Kosovo and the point. Serbia has no right to turn the plates into a conflicted daily, where it is making the fly bull as if the Government of Kosovo has warned any war”, Rama said.

He also called on Kosovo, as he said, not to create problems with international friends through maintaining Kosovo's special police units at the border.

“Must be careful that the taking of special units to that area, due to the need to ensure that public safety and order are not affected, at the moment of the extent of the problem, does not turn into a problem between Kosovo and its friends and international partners”, Rama said.

Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has justified the presence of special units at border crossings.

The Special Unit of the Kosovo Police is not there to demonstrate a force, but to protect our border checkpoints and border police”.

Germany's ambassador to Kosovo, Jörn Rohde, has also called on Kosovo and Serbia to reduce tensions and find solutions through dialogue.

The situation in the north must be tense. I call on both sides to talk to each other and not to each other. The best way ahead: meet in Brussels and find solutions as soon as possible”, Rohde wrote on Twitter.

Prime Minister Albin Kurti, in turn, said that Kosovo is open to talks which are rejected by Belgrade, while he reiterated that the reciprocity move is not directed against Kosovo Serbs.

We've made an offer, which we said is not worth having temporary license plates. Even the Republic of Kosovo and Serbia are removing both sides and believe that unmatched Albanians have more reason to prevent Serbia's license plate that has “4 S” with Cyrillic on it and that you have been able to find it in many houses destroyed during the war and even stabbed in the breasts of Albanians, than it would have to kill the Kosovo Serb map in Serbia. But we have said that if we remove the temporary plates, let them come freely, we are going freely and free flow, freedom of movement of goods, services, capital as easily and without any delay”, Kurti said.

Roads leading to border crossings in northern Kosovo at Jarinje and Brnjak are being kept blocked by local Serbs as a sign of opposition to Kosovo's reciprocity decision regarding vehicle plates.

Albania's Prime Minister Edi Rama, during his visit to Pristina, also met the leaders of the opinionary political parties. He again spoke of the <x0-Balkan Open initiative, where, according to him, this would speed up the Berlin process.

“I am convinced even more today that the Open Balkans is the only strategic direction for us not to get stuck in the past, and to get ourselves the maximum, as Albanians and as a region. Freedom of movement of people, goods and capital. It is more likely that dialogue from the climate created by the Open Balkans also succeeds. This is nothing but taking control of the Berlin process and accelerating it” said Rama.

The brother and neighbor don't choose. With your brother connecting your family and blood, you are tied to your neighbour because he is there”, Albania's prime minister said, after much of the distance clashes he had with Kosovo's prime minister.

Albania, Serbia and Northern Macedonia have signed an initiative called “Open Balkans”, in which they refuse to be part of Kosovo, Montenegro and Bosnia. /DW
