They collected large numbers of stones in the hollows of trees. Next, the males usually took a stone, walked a distance, grunted, and threw the stone into the trees, leaving a sign there.
The stone was then placed back into the hollow to be used again, reports BTh, Periscope.
No chimpanzee in any of these countries has been caught doing so earlier.

Furthermore, no reason for their survival in this ritual appears.
Researchers have said this could be a unique display of male power, marking the border of troop territory, or perhaps even some spiritual ritual.
A team of 80 international scientists did the research in question.
No monkey has ever been seen engaging in behavior that was not linked to their survival. /Periscope
