Memli Krasniqi: PDK seeks immediate approval of US gas infrastructure, gas plant

In a communiqué issued by the Democratic Party of Kosovo, the PDK is said to be conveying with great concern the Kosovo Government's speculation about the adoption of US agency's Compact investment plans on the preparation infrastructure for the gas delivery network, as well as plans for natural gas power plants.

At the time when the Kosovo economy has suffered shocks and is facing the consequences of pandemic, and is suffering the lack of a real and sustainable plan for economic recovery, investment of $200m as irreversible grant to the Kosovo economy, especially in the energy sector, not only is it necessary, but also represents enormous state interest.”, the PDK communique said.

The PDK calls on the Government of the Republic of Kosovo to approve and sign without delay the MCC project for the construction of infrastructure for gaspour and gas power plant, in line with the US conditions already approved by the Pristina government.

We request that the EURZH loan and the Western Balkans Investment Framework grant to the gas carrier be urgently processed in the country, with the goal of completing the investment framework in Kosovo. The connection of the Republic of Kosovo to the gas infrastructure that enjoys full US support is strategic, economic and geopolitical interest. The six-month delay in dealing with the priority of this state interest has already created a major risk of managing this project. His eventual failure, not only affects our reports, but also leaves Kosovo eternally outside the possibility of diversification of energy resources, a situation that suits only Serbia and strengthens Russia's position in the region”, it further says.

The PDK estimates that such a project would also facilitate the cost of energy for Kosovo families and would significantly affect lower air pollution levels and improve the environmental situation and the eventual failure of the Government of Kosovo would be a great loss for citizens of the Republic of Kosovo and our state, as well as constitute direct violation of our state and national interests.
