The chairman of the United Trade Union of Education, Science and Culture, Beftman Jasharaj, has criticised Kosovo government that it has not yet made a decision whether the new school year will begin on 13 September, Monday.
Jasharaj in an interview for Telegrafi, has said that the Government must make timely decisions, adding that teachers and parents should be prepared if the learning process begins Monday.
Also, he has indicated that at the last meetings they had with AugustI and the directors of education directors have agreed that the start of the new school year will begin on 13 September.
If we're based on the last meetings we've had with August, where there was Minister Arberie Nagavci, and all the directors of the educational directors, the parents' representatives and I as the representative of the SBASK, along with our other staff, there are all declared to be prepared for the start of the new school year, citing the date that is official 13 September, but it was not a date for a decision to be made. What we have seen in the media from the statements of Minister Nagvac suggests there will be new delays, because the measures reportedly will continue”, he stressed.
Jasharaj said it will be a problem if the new school year is postponed.
This will be an additional problem if the lesson is postponed, because the first question of how all these days are going to be replaced, because today the Government will come up with a firm decision, I'm saying what I owe, education workers not only now but even before September 1st have expressed readiness to start teaching”, he stated.
As for the teacher's vaccine, Jasharaj indicated that over 90% of educational workers have already been vaccinated.
Our vaccined app has yielded results, from a very small number of 70,000 and 200 a month ago, and we already have over 90% vaccinated. In 13 weeks, if the learning process of vaccinating teachers begins, there will be no problems. I want to criticize Government because it has to be out in time and to show firm decisions so that both teachers and children can be prepared”, he stated.
Speaking of the situation created, Jasharaj said that if it is passed on to online learning, teachers should have time to prepare.
If they go to online learning, then teachers should have two days to prepare because most have no laptops, and parents should prepare. This school year is the most difficult of all, since it has touched the elderly last year, and it is now ruthless for children even young ones. This is an additional problem, and I wish that those who have been declared are willing to start the learning process, have the proper preparation of”, he stressed.
During the conversation, Jasharaj said they are ready even if they are passed on online instruction, but that all depends on IKSHPK and Government.
The decision must be made today, not at the last moment. As far as we're concerned, we're about to begin our new school year, we're ready to be vaccinated, but it's all left to Government”, he said, among other things.
Jasharaj said that at this time of pandemic, the government should make the best solution.
“These two years were difficult for us, any postponement would create problems then, because lost days should be replaced, but the government should make solutions, and should not last until July. Perhaps it would be best to keep the spring break. David is setting rules that we don't like, and parents too should watch over our children. The new school year is for children, the government must choose the best way I knew to go to without harming their health”, he added.
Otherwise, Health Minister Arben Vitita, at a meeting he had with the mayors, has proposed that the start of the new school year be postponed until 26 September.
