The most radical law of abortion in the United States has entered into force in Texas, despite legal efforts to block it.
The almost total ban on abortion in Texas encourages citizens to sue abortion providers who violate the law, paving the way for non-serious lawsuits by individuals who are just against abortion, which affect most clinics in the country.
The extremely restrictive law against abortion “Senate Bill 8”, introduced in the Texas legislature, prohibits abortion at the moment cardiac activity in the embryo, which is about six weeks old. There are no exceptions here even when the embryo came as a result of incest or rape. Texas is the first country to pass such a law, and even attempts to prevent it through an appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court were unsuccessful.
The law “immediately and catastrophicly reduces access to abortion in Texas”, state abortion services providers say, and will probably force many abortion clinics to end. This will prevent most Texas women (85%) from having access to safe abortions, since most are not even aware that they are pregnant in six weeks, reports The Guardian.
Joe Biden condemned the new law and reaffirmed the White House's support for the right to abortion. This extreme Texas law evidently violates the constitutional right established under Roe v. Wade, who serves as a precedent for nearly half a century,” said Biden in the statement.
Texas is already one of the states where access to abortions is the most difficult because of a series of state laws promoted by the republican legislature over the past decade.
