Former Kosovo Police Director: We don't have to go back a few years and patrol our streets.

Rashit Qalaj, former director of the Kosovo Police, has reacted after in talks in Brussels between Kosovo and Serbia under the leadership of the envoy from the European Union for dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak is set to continue to be controlled by KFOR. He at ATV said he disagrees that KFOR forces [...]
He at ATV said he disagrees that KFOR forces take the role of monitoring roads in the country's north, adding that it is not necessary for Kosovo to turn back several years.
It's strange how it's published without the deal being reached first, if that's the deal. I think informing the opinion on the points that have been discussed before the agreement is reached, I think, is not good, at least it hurts the Kosovo side who are in the dialogue. On the other hand, I welcome any agreement, but I am against having KFOR forces take the role of monitoring the roads there by Kosovo Police. I think if there's only no need for the Special Units to stay on the roads leading to the border crossings in Brnjak and Jarinje, then it should gradually have ordinary police, traffic and border police and other common units patrol those roads, initially reinforced with the special unit, and gradually special unit police officers withdraw. There is nothing wrong with any KFOR patrol standing there, but all the time responsible should be the Kosovo Police because it is responsible even under the law and the constitution and there is no need to go back a few years for our streets patrol and surveillance KFOR,” he said.
Qalaj further added that it is the task of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Government of Kosovo for such police operations as the one in the country's north to co-ordinate with the international political spectrum.
For police operations, police don't need to coordinate with the international political spectrum, but this is a task of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Government. As for co-operation with the Security Institutions in this case EULEX and KFOR in the past have had co-operation, but there has never been a request by Kosovo Police to engage EULEX and KFOR”, Qalaj has said.
