KFOR says it has increased the number and length of routine patrols throughout Kosovo, including the north.
“KFOR is closely monitoring the situation throughout Kosovo and remains focused on daily implementation of its mandate, which stems from UN Security Council Resolution 1244 of 1999 to ensure a safe and secure environment and freedom of movement for all communities living in Kosovo. KFOR has increased the number and length of routine patrols throughout Kosovo, including northern Kosovo”, said in the statement.
Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has said at a news conference today that he and Interior Minister have discussed the security situation with KFOR commander-general. Yesterday, he has also talked with NATO Secretary General and even with the European Commission's Foreign Policy representative regarding the situation in northern Kosovo.
When asked about the addition of KFOR forces in the north, Kurti said they have no information on this, until he indicated he did not make decisions without the assessments coming from Kosovo Police.
We discussed with General Federic, KFOR General Command on the security situation. Since we've got our cops there and they do the assessment of the situation. The decisions we make are not political clean, even their content is very professional and security. I as prime minister of the Republic of Kosovo and the minister of interior do not make decisions without the assessments coming from the Kosovo Police on the circumstances in which they are located and we exchange information with KFOR because we are more present than even KFOR itself. I don't have such information on preparing KFOR's entry. I talked yesterday with NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg and Vice President. European Commission President and Foreign Policy Representative Mr. Borell”, he has declared.
