KFOR Commander says he has talked with parties about halting protests in the north

KFOR Commander Major General Franco Federic has announced that they have taken further steps on the ground, adding patrols along major roads affected by the impasses of Serbian protesters and has deployed their units even at border points in Jarinje and Brnjak, in line with its mandate. In a media communique [...]

A communiqué to the media says that the measures taken have been discussed in advance with Kosovo institutions and the mayors of northern municipalities, and that they are aimed at the rapid de-excedentation of the situation, following protests in the north due to the reciprocity move for license plates from Serbia.

“KFOR has taken further steps on the ground, adding patrols along major roads affected by the deadlocks and placing its units even at border crossings at Brnjak Jarinje, in line with its mandate, stemming from UN Security Council Resolution 1244. KFOR has also held talks, with all parties involved, to disrupt protests in northern Kosovo. The measures taken, earlier discussed by KFOR commander with all Kosovo institutions and with the mayors of northern municipalities, are aimed at favouring a quick de-expass of tensions created last week and restoring a safe environment and freedom of movement for all communities in Kosovo”, KFOR leader has said.
