Government backs LDK's proposal that election campaign be cut

It was the chairman of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Lumir Abdixhiku, who came out today at the public invitation to Albin Kurti in the quality of Vetevendosje Movement chairman Memli Krasniqi and the one of AAKA Ramush Haradinaj to get together and build an electoral pact for the election campaign to last only 10 days and not 30, as the law envisions.

Government spokesman Kryeziu has declared that as in the Kurti 1 Government, they are open to co-operation.

He has even reassembled the statement by Health Minister Arben Vitita, who said that co-operation also means not preventing government efforts to manage pandemic.

We support the proposal for the election campaign to be as short as possible, depending on the recommendations of IKCPKA. The struggle with pandemic is a common struggle because we all face the same danger, indiscriminately. So, as in the Kurti Government, we are open to cooperation. But, as Health Minister Arben Vitita stated yesterday, co-operation is also when government efforts to manage pandemics are not hindered, even when there is no distribution of vaccines and their deadlines, even when government measures are respected. So let's start with this form of collaboration”, Kryeziu said of Clankosova.tv.

In his request, Obadiah has written that the pace of death will continue one more time, so the same should stop.

“Beyond the state responsibilities the Government has, the responsibility it must exercise with full competence, the responsibility it will be held to account for anyway, today I am addressing each of you, as head of parties, to overcome ourselves, overcome differences and build an election pact. More precisely, in this pact, I propose that the full political will, despite the country's legal establishment, be cut off from 30 days to 10 days. Let's move the political confrontation from the ground where we usually gather hundreds and thousands of people at once, in other debates, television, digital and social confrontation”.

He has asked party leaders instead of instructing all of their candidates that any pre-electoral and electoral activity from today until October 17th make it a reality of strict rules set by the Kosovo National Public Health Institute.

Even the PDK is in favor of this proposal. But, the chairman of this subject, Memli Krasniqi, has stressed that he thinks that only the duration of the conventional campaign should be cut down, until he says the health of Kosovo citizens is a fundamental priority.

The next “of your letter, the Democratic Party of Kosovo shares the opinion that, although it is extremely vital for our democracy to ensure the prosperity of elections at the set time, as well as under measures guaranteeing full transparency and access to active participation of citizens in the voting process, this should be done safely and ensuring the protection of citizens' health. Therefore, we think that the length of the conventional campaign, meaning meetings and gatherings that require the physical presence of candidates and citizens, should be reduced by”, Krasniqi wrote in his letter to Obadiah.

And Alliance for the Future of Kosovo Chairman Ramush Haradinaj, except that he supported the proposal for the election campaign to be cut short, said the same should last only five days.

I have received a letter from LDK chairman Mr. Abdixhiku, where he calls for cutting the election campaign from 30 to 10 days. The AAK's position, given its serious state with pandemic, is to cut the campaign to just 5 days instead of 10”.
