The European Commission's president for the situation in the north: Continue with dialog

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyeen has talked about many topics on today's visit to Kosovo. During the joint conference with Prime Minister Albin Kurti, Leyen was also asked about the situation at Kosovo's border crossings with Serbia in Jarinje and Brnjak, stressing the need for the extension of the situation. She mentioned [...]

She cited that Kosovo and Serbia negotiators currently are in Brussels to find a compromise to overcome this.

“S first, the issues we are currently seeing at the border. Reflect on me to talk about this first. While we are here, the meeting between negotiators is under way in Brussels. Negotiators hope they have a powerful mandate to negotiate. I am deeply convinced that the situation should be relaxed and continued with dialogue. I come from a country and from the EU that knows what that means,”, she said.

In turn, it moved on to the issue of the integration of Western Balkan countries into the European Union, well expecting the impatience of Kosovo citizens over that.

I know there's an eagerness to move forward. Let's take this and put it into a construction job for the future of the region. My experience is that if you change effectively, you approach dreams. I am the staunch supporter of enlargement”, the president of the European Commission said.

She also spoke of the economy, stressing the plan for creating new jobs that will be well paid.

You have already told me that Kosovo is a country of entrepreneurs and an entrepreneurial Albanian people so it will have to be benefited here by creating well-paid jobs. That's what the plan for economic development is to do”, Ursula von der Leyeen said

“We want a future where Kosovo and the entire Balkans will be part of the EU... We all want that. I think we owe this to the kids we saw today”, she said.

As for the vaccine, she said “we want to accelerate the vaccine in Kosovo and achieve a long-term sustainable economic recovery”.
