“Today can announce that the commission will add a donation of another 200 million doses by the middle of next year”, von der Leyen said at the European Parliament in the annual speech.
She acknowledged that there are inequalities between developed states such as the United States and the states of Europe, which have vaccinated most of the population, and poorer countries, which are having difficulty providing vaccines, writes France24, broadcast the Express.
“With less than one percent of the global doses given in low-income states, the rate of injustice and the emergency level are clear”, the EU's top official said.
Von der Leyen praised the vaccine process in European countries, where over 70 percent of the adult population has already been vaccinated.
According to her, Europe has done more than each region to supply other countries with vaccines, stressing that half of the 1.4 billion vaccines produced on our continent's territory have been exported abroad.
