Officials of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) tell Radio Free Europe that the election campaign should be directed more on social networks and other forms, fleeing the campaign on the ground due to the outlook COVID-19.
LDK Election Staff Chief Arben Gashi says they will respect the measures against COVID-19 during the 30-day campaign.
We're going to do 25 days online, in social media, in online newspapers, on television. While we are going to campaign classical on the basis of recommendations from the Public Health Institute, only five days”, Says Gashi.
Until the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo has decided that the campaign for the 17 October local elections would limit it to five days. That's how Muharrem Nitaj knew about this party.
Nitaj says that even this five-day term of the traditional campaign is designed to develop in full compliance with criteria and recommendations for preventing the spread of COVID-19.
“Aleance will implement the model of the digital campaign, that means ways of communication that through various forms that enable the internet, social networks, media. But even informal meetings with individuals assigned, with small groups”, Says Nitay.
The ruling party, the Vetevendosje Movement, was for delaying elections. Arlind Manjuka, the spokesperson for this party, says they have given their stance to postpone elections due to the Delta version and the escape of a new wave.
He did not elaborate on how this party will hold the campaign.
“We will strictly respect the guidelines and decisions of the country's institutions, especially those in health, in terms of campaign development”, Manjuka says.
In the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), no response has been given to the form of campaign organisation.
Days ago, after meeting with President Vjosa Osmani, Qazim Candman from the Ashkali Party for Integration (PAI), has proposed that the campaign be held online.
