The Mexican government threw into the national lottery the house used by former drug king Joachim “El Chapo” Guzman.

A total of 22 properties, many of which belonged to organised crime, were sold at the lottery throw held in Mexico City.
The number of ticket 1, 438 619 won Guzman's safe house in Culiacan, about 200 kilometers northeast of Mexico City.

The house, which had a rescue tunnel hidden under a bathtub, played a key role in a failed operation to arrest cartel leader “Sinaloa” on February 17, 2014.
Guzman was eventually captured five days later. Lottery was organised by the government of President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, who had tried several times to auction the 261 square metre property.

El Chapo, currently 64 years old and serving a life sentence in the United States, was famous for his escapes. He escaped from maximum security prisons twice.
