“Leave me convinced of the ability of the people of Kosovo to build a better future for all”, he said through a Twitter post.
The outgoing ambassador added that his deputy, Nick Giacobe, would be in charge of work until the new ambassador's arrival.
Costetti's three-week mandate ends at the end of the year.
The new US ambassador to Kosovo has been named Jeffrey M. Havenier, but he must be confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
In an earlier interview for Radio Free Europe, Kostett has said the agreement on normalising relations between Kosovo and Serbia cannot be reached without compromises on all sides.
