This agricultural contribution harms people's health, fuels climate crisis, destroys nature and promotes inequality by excluding small farmers, most of whom are women, according to UN agencies.
The biggest sources of greenhouse gases, producing red and milk, received the largest subsidies, the report said. These are often produced by highly industrialized groups, reports Guardian, translated Periscope.
Without reform, the level of subsidies was at risk of $1.8 trillion by 2030, further damaging human well - being and worsening the planetary crisis.
Support for meat producers in rich countries should be reduced, say agency analysts.
The report, released prior to the UN food summit on September 23rd, said reorientising subsidies for other activities could be “the turning point” to end poverty, eliminate hunger and reduce global warming. /Periscope
