The executive director of the Kosovo Commission Association, Saban Ibrahimi, has stated for Express that it is not necessary to start teaching only with the physical presence of students in schools.
Ibrahim says that based on the assessment of the Municipal Task Force, learning can start online for schools where there may be higher risk of spreading the virus, or physical presence in schools where fewer students and the risk of spreading the virus is lower.
“Colegium of education directors at yesterday's meeting has considered the conditions for the start of the new 2021/22 school year to be prepared and given to the competence of the Municipal Forces to decide which of the four scenarios can be implemented for the start of the new school term. A scenario is of physical presence, in those municipalities that Task Force estimates there are no conditions to start teaching with physical presence, can start online. One of these four scenarios can be used for the start of the new school year because 90 days of learning have been lost to this day. It is not necessarily beginning with physical presence”, Ibrahim declared.
The United Education, Science and Technology Union has also opposed delaying the start of the new school year.
SBASAK Chairman Nundman Jasharaj has declared that
“We have declared that any next school year extension will present additional problems and create questions about how we can replace lost days and hours because even until September 27 we have 18 days of lost learning and we will have a lot of trouble replacing them. The SBASK has expressed itself publicly against any further delays, we think that if the public health institutions, the Ministry of Health and the ICSHPK are really at risk of having a physical start of the school year, then MASTI, DKA with us and all the rest of us have to engage and prepare to start with another version of learning, such as online”, Yasharaj has declared for Blic.
Otherwise, Health Minister Arben Vitita stated today that Fridays are under discussion to find the best solution not to harm the education system, although, as he put it, the IKSHPK recommendations are to continue measures for schools because of the spread of variant Delta to new ages.
The IKSHPK recommendations have been that schools should be interrupted and that this should be continued. But we are continuing to do our best to respect recommendations to take other measures that do not harm the education process. But we have to be conservatives to the danger of opening schools, over 50 cases have been children who have not been infected with Delta before. The educational system is the most infected by the pandemic”, Vitia said.
