Democratic Party of Kosovo Vice President Vlora Citaku has said that Kosovo is campaigning to recognise itself by leaving key diplomatic missions in world countries without title.
I'd like to talk about government jobs, because I understand democratic rotation as a natural process, today you're in position and tomorrow in opposition. The best of it would be for whoever comes after this government tomorrow to find the country in a better situation than it has left. Unfortunately so far I am unable to speak with the current government at program points or specific projects, because such ones have not yet been introduced. What we've seen is a abstention in government, especially we've seen a abstention in foreign policy”.
“We will wake up tomorrow and Kosovo will have top diplomatic missions around the globe without titles, without ambassadors. Under these circumstances we do not need a recognition campaign from Serbia. We are recognizing ourselves. We are refusing to exercise our sovereignty, our right, for representation in different countries on the side of the world. This is frightening, because the government and the presidency have had enough time to identify the responsible persons who would be ambassadors to the respective countries of”.
The former Kosovo ambassador to the US, in the special edition in Klan Kosova, said Kosovo is sending wrong messages by not sending powerful ambassadors to countries where there are diplomatic missions.
“An official who is left in charge of work is not the same as an ambassador. The way diplomatic missions work is they have protocol. Where a powerful ambassador can go he cannot go a deputy or a diplomat of the lowest rank. Kosovo needs to be everywhere. We willingly, perhaps irresponsible, have ruled out a very important citizenship function. In diplomacy, when you don't send a powerful ambassador to the country, send him a message. If a country I cool relations with another country they don't send powerful ambassadors, but leave one loaded with work. The next act after that is to sever diplomatic relations”.
