Merkel urged the public to vote on her party's candidate, calling it the sole candidate worthy of forming the government capable of leading the country's future.
“What is at stake are real economic decisions and tax-related decisions that will determine the future of our country, the number of jobs”, said Merkel, adding that Armin Laschet of her Union, Christian Democratic Christian (CDU), was the only candidate capable of forming “a moderate government that will lead our country in the future”.
Merkel also criticised Scholz for using the term <x0nders of Guinea” to describe people vaccinated against Ovid-19. At a campaign rally Saturday, the SPD candidate had asked independent people to take doses of vaccines against the virus, saying that the “Files of Guinea” like him had proven that vaccines were safe.
“neither of us is a “der Guinea”, nor Olaf Scholz nor I”, she added in Bundestag.
Merkel, whose style of governance has usually included her by rising above political party disputes, drew ridicule from other parliamentarians for her partisan intervention.
God, that's a fuss. I've been a member of the German Bundestag for over 30 years and where should we discuss such matters if not here? It's the heart of our democracy”, Merkel has expressed at the conclusion of the speech.
