According to customs, the import of alcoholic beverages in Albania increased by 71 per cent in the January-July 2021 period, compared to the 7th month of 2020, where consumption marked a 42 per cent drop due to total quarantine.
During 2020, alcohol was the product that was hit most of the pandemic, also due to the closing of bars and especially nightclubs.
But this year has brought an increase of their consumption, even compared to the same period in 2019, since it has expanded by about 51 per cent. Domestic production stood at 445 thousand litres for January-July 2021, with a 53 per cent annual growth, but still 18 per cent lower than in 2019.
But according to the Monitor, not only alcohol but coffee and energy drinks have experienced a significant increase during this year's 7-month. According to customs in the January-July 2021 period, about 5,000 tonnes of coffee were imported with a 10 per cent increase in proportion to the same period in 2020.
Import of energy drinks for the January-July period reached 9.5 million litres, with an increase of 37 per cent compared to the same period a year ago. Even during the 7th month of last year, which coincided with the period when the country was quarantined, once again its consumption was on the rise, with imports for the 7-month month expanding by 23 per cent compared to normal 2019. / T V KLAN/
