Northern Macedonia Prime Minister Zoran Zaev said he had informed the United States that authorities were available to help refugees from Afghanistan.

“Afganistan is facing a potential humanitarian catastrophe and that is why we, like Government, have informed our strategic partners in the United States that we are available to help with our capabilities and needs”.

He said they are willing to accept Afghanistan's civilian population.

To save the lives of the local population, we informed that we are ready to take over and accept the civilian population of Afghanistan that has worked for peace in that country over the past 20 years, was local support for NATO Allied forces, including our military and the acceptance of activists from humanitarian democratic organisations and human rights organisations in Afghanistan”, Zaev told “TV21”

Zaev further said that, for that purpose, they would ensure accommodation, and the costs during refugee stays, at the permanent destination, would be fully covered by the United States.

“We are a country of solidarity, our people and our society have always offered support and assistance, as we have received help in case of major disasters”, Zaev concluded.
