Several bodies were found with weapons wounds or bound hands, and officials said Monday that a forensic investigation was needed to determine the official causes of death.
Officials in question spoke of the Associated Press in condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak about the media, reports Guardian, translated Periscopi in Albanian.
Two Ethiopian health workers on the Sudanese border of the Hamdaya community confirmed they had seen troops on the Seth River, known for Ethiopia as the Tekese River.
The river flows into some of the weightiest areas from the nine-month war in Tigery, where ethnic tigers have accused Ethiopia and Allied forces of cruelty.
Ethiopia's prime minister, who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2019, has said his forces had gone to the region as counter-responsive to the attacks of rebel groups.
The war has so far killed thousands of people until many more have fled to Sudan. /Periscope
