The Taliban spokesman declared during an interview for an American television that there is no evidence that al-Qaeda founder Osama Bin Laden was behind the 11 September terrorist attacks and added that this was just an excuse to invade Afghanistan in 2001.
When Osama bin Laden turned into an issue for Americans, he was in Afghanistan. There is no evidence of his involvement in these attacks. However, we have already promised that Afghan land will no longer be used against anyone”, Zabiullah Mujahed at NBC said, promising that his country will no longer be a “before the” for terrorists.
NBC journalist then insisted and asked Mujahid again that by that it meant that the group accepted responsibility for the worst terrorist attack, and he replied: “there is no evidence. After 20 years there is no evidence that bin Laden is involved. He was just an excuse for the fight”.
Mujahedid made those statements despite the fact that bin Laden admitted in 2004 that he had ordered the attacks.
