Sharan, capital of the Pact province, was taken over by the Taliban on Saturday morning, the chairman of the regional council, writes BBC.
He said the Intelligence Department, the Governor's Office, the central police station and local prison are now under the control of the Taliban. The city of Sharan lies 200 miles [200 km] south of Kabul.
Asadabad, capital of Kunar province, was also taken over by the Taliban on Saturday, a local deputy told BBC television.
Unverified images published on social networks show people waving the Taliban flag and walking the streets. Asadabad lies 5 miles [225 km] east of Kabul.
The Taliban already control more than half of Afghanistan's regional capitals.
