Prosecutors have opened an investigation into attempted murder as workers and students at the Technical University in Darmstad, south of Frankfurt, the AP reported health problems Monday.
Police said milk boxes and water containers at one of the campus buildings seem to have been contaminated with a harmful substance between last Friday and Monday, while reportedly the contaminated fluid had a strong smell.
Police and prosecutors said on Tuesday they had searched other university buildings as a precautionary measure, but found nothing else linked to alleged poisoning.
They also said no one else had come up with symptoms.
They said in a statement that they are doing everything to identify the guilty or guilty” and that, given the knowledge, there is no “acute risk at all”.
Prosecutor Robert Hartmann told reporters that while authorities believe the infection may have been deliberate, they currently have no information showing any specific person as a possible crime.
He said the substance has been identified, but prosecutors will not publicly appoint it to the function of the ongoing investigation for the time being.
