Reuters has quoted a Taliban leader in Doha as saying the militant group has ordered fighters to refrain from violence in Kabul and allow anyone who wants to leave to do so safely.
The Taliban on 15 August also took over the town of Jalalaabad, less than 24 hours after they took control of the Mazar-e Sharif city.
The Taliban have made rapid progress in recent weeks, taking over large parts of the territory as foreign forces, led by the United States, are withdrawing from Afghanistan.
