The Kosovo Women's Network has demanded maximum punishment for those responsible for killing an 18-year-old girl yesterday in Ferizaj.
In the case Kosovo police have named it “grave murder”, one of the suspects is on the run and police have called for citizens' help in arresting him.
This girl's murder is not an isolated case, nor did this girl die in a country in which every murder of women is associated with institutional silence, procrastination of investigations, and with low sentences for women's killers.”, said the association for women's media network.
This is their full response:
Sunday was unfortunate for an 18-year-old girl who was left without life signs at the Ferizaj Emergency Centre.
Kosovo police have described the case as grave murder, and thus far a suspect has been arrested, while the second suspect is on the run. This case, once again, dislodges institutional shortcomings in treating women and childicides with seriousness.
The killing of this girl is not an isolated case, nor did this girl die in a country in which every murder of women is accompanied by institutional silence, procrastination of investigations, and with low sentences for female killers.
Like for any murder of women from men here we have a chain of guilt within the institutions.
How can a woman's lifeless body be left without any accountability?
Let us remember here that hospitals are obliged in all cases where there are signs of violence to announce security institutions, and to make sure that agents of violence do not flee.
Kosovo Women Network ( S. The GK requires that the 18-year-old murder investigation be a priority for investigative organs, as well as the culprits, to receive the maximum sentence. And by means of this statement, we announce that RGK will closely present the case and seek to establish justice in the country.
At the same time, we call on citizens to co-operate in finding the second suspect, while the media are calling on to report with the spotlight on the preservation of the victim's dignity only in this way will each of us play the role that is due us in fighting the unconditional murder of girls and women.
RGK will not stop until the murders of girls and women are treated only as daily news or as private matters.
