The United States will begin sending 500 million doses of Pfizer vaccines/ B NTech in 100 countries with lower incomes at the end of this month, American President Joe Biden announced.

Among the 65 countries that have received vaccines from the US so far are Afghanistan, which has received 3.3 million doses; Pakistan, 5.5 million; Uzbekistan, 3 million and Ukraine, 2 million doses.

Among the countries that will benefit vaccines from the US are Kosovo and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In May, Biden pledged that the US will donate at least 80 million vaccines to countries worldwide. He said on August 3rd that promise has been fulfilled.

The United States has submitted vaccine doses mainly through COVAX, a global scheme designed for equal distribution of vaccines to poor countries.

COVAX, supported by the World Health Organisation (OBSH) and the Global Alliance for Vaccinates and Immmation, says it needs 2 billion doses by year's end.

Pandemia has killed at least 4.2 million people on a global scale, including 613,679 people in the United States, more than any other country, followed by India with 425,000 registered deaths, according to data published by Johns Hopkins University.
